The San Diego Public Library system has many events celebrating Black History Month, focusing on education and uplifting the community. From film screenings all month long at the Valencia Park/Malcolm X Library to unique crafts at Skyline Hills, there’s an event for everyone!
City Heights Multicultural Festival of Love
The City Heights Multi-Cultural Festival of Love is a lively celebration of diversity, uniting the community beyond cultural and language barriers! With local support, it fosters connection, unity, and cultural awareness.

Lakewood with Megan Giddings: Black History Month Author Talk
San Diego Public Library and USD’s Copley Library present Lakewood with Megan Giddings as part of our Black History Month author series! Join us for a talk with the acclaimed author and University of Minnesota professor. Her award-winning novels, Lakewood and The Women Could Fly, have earned national recognition, and her upcoming books, Meet Me at the Crossroads (2025) and Black Arts (2026), are highly anticipated.

San Diego Clippers
San Diego’s own NBA G League basketball team is hosting a Black History Night during their February game against the South Bay Lakers! Attendees will get to enjoy cultural dance performances throughout the game, a pre-game networking event, and community activations around the stadium.

San Diego’s Black Arts & Culture District is hosting its second annual community activation event for Black History Month! Get ready to celebrate Black culture with a street fair, art walk, live entertainment, and health-focused activities aimed to honor the Encanto neighborhood and its heritage.

The San Diego African American Museum of Fine Arts is a great, year-round opportunity to learn and appreciate art by African Americans. They collect and preserve art pieces from around the world (and by local San Diegoans!) with rotating exhibitions!
