How Do Women Qualify for STEM Scholarships in San Diego?

It probably comes as no surprise that a lack of diversity exists in the STEM workforce in the United States. Women are still largely outnumbered by their male counterparts, and Black and Latina women are underrepresented compared to Asian and white women. Women with advanced degrees have a higher likelihood of securing jobs in the STEM field; however, they remain underrepresented overall. What is being done to change this? Thankfully, an increasing number of universities and employers are taking action to shift these statistics.

Inspired by their backgrounds and the principles of belonging, connectedness, empathy, and authenticity, the two perhaps unlikely pair recognized their shared passion to bridge cultural gaps and create a sense of belonging for diversity in the workforce. “In today’s STEM workforce, belonging is missing,” says Rastetter. “Diversity and Inclusion are important parts to the equation, but alone are not sufficient. If we can empower Black, Latinx, Indigenous students to know that they belong in STEM, then we will have achieved a tremendous amount.”
